Fun, energetic and impactful are the three words Wendy uses to describe Teambo, the business she helps lead. As general manager, her role extends far beyond sales and marketing. She is responsible for leading a team while helping organisations across South Africa build stronger workplace cultures through meaningful teambuilding experiences.
One of the defining moments in her career came when she stepped into the role of general manager. While she had always been part of the business, taking responsibility for leading a team brought a new level of accountability. “I had to quickly learn to trust my instincts and have the confidence to make decisions that would impact both the team and the business,” she says. Leading with both structure and empathy has helped her grow into a stronger, more grounded leader.
Her definition of success has also evolved. Where it once centred on delivering the perfect event, today it is measured by impact. Whether it’s hearing that a client’s team communicates better after a session or reading a five-star review from a returning customer, she believes lasting relationships are the true reward.
Wendy is passionate about changing one of the biggest misconceptions surrounding teambuilding. “People often assume only broken teams need teambuilding,” she explains. Instead, she believes the strongest teams invest in growing before problems arise.
The woman who has shaped her journey most is her mother, whose faith, integrity and compassion continue to influence the way she leads others. On difficult days, she shifts into solution mode, asking herself, “What is the next best step forward?”
Outside the office, daily gym sessions and spending quality time with loved ones help her recharge. Her advice to her younger self is simple but powerful: “Speak up. Your perspective has value.” And after a successful day of building stronger teams, there’s only one way to unwind, a well-deserved glass of wine.
