Brighten up your home with fresh seasonal colours

There is no better time to re-fresh your home’s look than Spring, with fresh blooms and bright colours sure to bring the natural beauty of the season into your home.

A colour update is a quick and easy way to give your home a fresh, new look, explains Alon Sachs, co-founder of Mobelli Furniture + Living.

Sachs offers the following tips to create a floral haven in your home:

Find your inspiration

Create a mood board, such as ours on Pinterest, to inspire you before you take on any decorating. This will help to define the style of your space and will also make your life easier when shopping for new furniture and decor. Once you’ve finalised your mood board, move on to your space and take stock of what you already have, what you want to keep and what you’ll be replacing.

Colour coordinate

Décor trends are leaning towards fresh pastel and blush colours, as well as rich, warm shades, paired with anthracite and charcoal. And true to the season, green is a firm favourite for décor. Pair them with lavenders and lilacs, reds, pale blues, and yellow and gold shades to create a field of florals in your own home.

“Colour has the ability to add personality to any space, so choose colours that you like most and that will portray your personality in the space,” explains Sachs.

“But avoid the temptation to add too many new shades: Try to use the rule of threes and stick to three main colours in your space. Additional colour pops can be incorporated through smaller décor items.”

Time to bloom

Fresh flowers will liven up your space and add a natural source of colour and texture. Tie your décor to the colours and textures of your flowers or indoor plants. This will allow your décor and blooms to work together to create a harmonious flow throughout the space. For instance, select plants that feature on your cushions, pillows and other décor elements.

It’s all in the details

Colour updates work well in décor items such as cushions and rugs. If you’re trying to avoid the overall look of your room becoming too feminine, use dark grey or black to offset any pastel notes. Using these darker colours as a background gives a great contrast to prints and pastel shades, keeping the room feeling balanced.

There are plenty of ways to bring pops of colour into your space in a subtle way. Try incorporating colourful decor accessories – such as rugs, coconut bowls or scatter cushions – into your space.

Light it up

Lighting plays a big role in any space, indoors and outdoors. It affects the mood of the space as well as the level of enjoyment: Too much light and it may be too harsh on the eyes, too little light and you won’t be able to see enough. After updating your space with a fresh new look, show it off by adding accent lighting with LED lights, which will create a cheerful and inviting atmosphere.
