A celebration of wine and the wild, of heritage and sustainability.

Wine in the Wilderness is a fabulous experience, combining heritage and sustainability, fine wine and the art of safari.
Samara Karoo Reserve, in partnership with Creation Wines and Simonsig Family Vineyards, is hosting two of these exclusive weekends this May.

Taking place over the weekends of the renowned Graaff-Reinet Stoep Tasting festival, this immersive series brings together the culture of two multi-generational wine estates with Samara’s own family-run conservation journey in the Great Karoo. All share a common ethos – of land stewardship, commitment to excellence and responsibility to future generations.

The 3-night weekends have been caringly curated as all-inclusive experiences, encompassing a wine-pairing dinner and hosted tasting, daily game drives and wilderness walks, fireside conservation storytelling and a day’s excursion to Graaff-Reinet’s Stoep Tasting Festival, plus accommodation on a full board basis at the Karoo Lodge.
On the weekend of 16 to19 May, it’s A Taste of Adventure. From the cool-climate slopes of the Hemel-en-Aarde valley, Creation Wines will bring curiosity, creativity and innovation to the Great Karoo. Hosted by fourth-generation winemaker Glenn Martin, this weekend’s wine-pairing experience will blend wine with sensory exploration and shared philosophy – rooted in Creation’s commitment to a deep respect for land. Expect a creative alchemy of food and wine, unforgettable cheetah tracking on foot and fireside storytelling on wine, family and sustainability.

The second weekend, from 23 to 26 May is Heritage in Harmony. Founded in 1968 by Frans Malan, Simonsig Family Vineyards is a cornerstone of South African wine. Today, third-generation Michael Malan leads the cellar with a deep respect for tradition and commitment to ethical, sustainable winemaking.

Cheers to Friday, everyone, and the start of the Easter weekend! 🥳

We're all pumped for this weekend—celebrating Easter, enjoying time with our loved ones, and making memories. Here’s a peek at what each of us is getting up to:

Bron: Enjoying a little rugger action at the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival with the kids, getting my hands dirty in the garden, keeping up with my 45-minute-a-day exercise commitment as part of my 50-day challenge and taking a little time out to read. 

Noreen: This Easter, I’ll be blissfully caught between my sister’s culinary love bombs, my husband’s motor-whirring mayhem, and my cat Queen Julianna’s royal garden inspections. I plan to eat, dig, nap, repeat — with chocolate eggs as my emotional support snack. Batteries recharged by chaos, carbs and cats.

Jess: Attending church. Spending time with family and friends. Eating way too much chocolate!

Nicole: Spending loads of time with my beautiful family and best of all watching my 4-year-old niece hunt for Easter eggs!

This morning, in the rain, we had the absolute privilege of shooting with Marissa Groenewald, aka The Rope Runner — an athlete, record-setter, and all-round force of nature. 🌧️✨

Marissa is on a mission to become the first person EVER to rope run the Comrades Marathon - and she’s doing it all in support of Love Justice International, an organisation fighting the horrors of human trafficking. 💛

She’s already conquered the Cape Peninsula Marathon and the Two Oceans, both with a rope in hand - now she’s going for her third world record at the ultimate human race.

Rain? Upper Highway cold? No problem. Marissa showed up with heart, grit, and determination that shook us all.

We recently immersed ourselves in nature’s beaut

We recently immersed ourselves in nature’s beauty during a flower picking adventure at @fig_tree_farm_hillcrest, and wow … wow… wow … what a blissful and rewarding experience it was!

Armed with empty buckets and floral snips, we wandered through gorgeous flower fields with manager Jax Moynihan, and were greeted by the most prolific display of summer blooms - dahlias, zinnias, roses, hydrangeas, sunflowers, craspedias, celeosias, amaranthus, lace and geums - swaying gently in the wind. The sight, combined with the floral scents, created a truly hypnotic time.

Chatting to Jax, we were told that The Flower Garden was started as a passion project, born out of community interest. The irony is that Jax has never been much of a green thumb when it comes to gardening.

“I am neither a florist, a horticulturist or a farmer. I am totally self-taught. Flowers were something I loved looking at and besides knowing what roses, sunflowers and orchids were, my knowledge stopped there.” After numerous requests from Fig Tree visitors wanting to know if they could buy the flowers growing on the farm, Jax opened The Flower Shop.
